Proposal/ Submission Title
Lowering the cost of decarbonised power & heat
Problem Statement
Within a short span of less than 20 years, wind & solar have now become the cheapest sources of electricity, however electricity grids are not designed for intermittent power - causing issues in frequencies, grid congestion, and inherent mismatches between energy supply and demand.
Which is why Energy Storage is system critical, because it provide the system balance needed to achieve decarbonisation.
The problem is, our current options are too expensive and not easily deployable at scale. We intend to solve that problem through our breakthrough thermal energy batteries.
Which do you think are the innovative factors of your idea?
We are developing a modular, low cost thermal battery system that converts surplus electricity into high temperature thermal energy in blocks of very low-cost, widely available materials such as carbon, silicon, amongst other materials. We stores it for days, weeks, months, and convert it to electricity using our breakthrough thermophotovoltaic power conversion technology
All solid state, no moving parts. Clean, safe, and sustainable design.
We are also able to dispatch industrial heat either as hot air or steam, or provide district heating by recycling our waste heat from our cooling process.
Which benefits would your idea bring to the industry?
If successful, we believe our low-cost, easily deployable, and highly scalable system can transform the energy storage sector and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy globally.
To which challenges does your idea provide a solution to?
We provide a solution to the challenge of costly, unsustainable, and difficult to scale energy storage.
